Eyes on Youth Photography Education Program

I think I had one of the best unofficial interviews that wasn’t an interview of my entire career.  I was fortunate to spend the week introducing children to the Digital Camera during a series of Photowalks and Workshops during the Eyes on Mainstreet Photography Festival 7th Edition in Wilson, North Carolina.

I would like to thank Jerome DePxxx for considering me for an opportunity I recently accepted as an Eyes on Mainstreet docent Photographer tasked along with Eyes on Mainstreet Photographer, and Columbia College professor, Peter Fitzpatrick to spearhead the Eyes on Education Youth Photography Program for 3rd thru 5th-grade aged children in Wilson, North Carolina.

Thanks to Canon, Inc., our camera and equipment sponsor, I’ll be introducing Canon DSLR cameras to an undetermined amount of children in the community during 3-month long workshops where I’ll be instructing different levels of Photography educations and experiences from January-March of 2022.

Here are several images made throughout our time during the Festival.  For several of the children, it was their first time seeing the Whirligigs and being at the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park.  After reviewing their images, I am confident that they connected with their experiences.

I’m not sure that they’re aware that I learned many things from them that have enriched my photography.  Kids are built-in “low-angles”, adults grow up, not down, so we have to pay to play if we hope to get the same images they do.
